Anna Pacitto, Co-Owner of Pure Salon Montreal
In general, it has been difficult, weird, and emotionally and physically draining, yet GREAT all at the same time. Our numbers so far have been good, and most of our team members are so charged with positive energy and so willing to help in making this work, that everyone is producing beautiful results. They are focused and giving it all they’ve got! It’s not easy for the team to work with all these new measures, and knowing we have huge bills to pay. That said, I feel that so much positivity has come out of this situation. This is a wake-up call for the world. I feel confident that we are all realizing that we all need to make changes to the way we live, view the world and care for our planet now for the benefit of future generations. Our plan is to maintain some of these changes (strict sanitation rituals, organized and more effective scheduling, and more regular advanced training) even after COVID ends. Let’s all take this seriously, and collectively we’ll make a difference.

When things were still very uncertain, we wanted our staff to know exactly what we were preparing for the “back to work” plan. Easing staff anxiety was a huge consideration, as was working with an individual’s comfort on returning to work. Then and now, we believe that giving your team members grace is key, as is acknowledging that this can be very scary for some people. Work with each person’s comfort level and support them through this process. Team members should also do the same with their employers. Working together is so important as this is everyone’s first time through something like this. Remember: We are allowed to do what we love again. Keep that at the forefront and know that the masks, new policies and procedures are just a heightened level of experience. Much love to all owners and hairdressers. We got this!
