Shorter hairstyles and cuts for women, including pixie cuts and crops, have been trending for some time now and are perfect for clients who want to truly stand out and show off their facial features. Although haircuts with shorter sides and length on the top have been a trend amongst male clients for the past few years, more and more women are opting for this style too. Callum Standen-May, co-owner of StandenMay, creative stylist at Bond Shoreditch Hair Salon, U.K., and cutting expert says he’s excited that more clients are asking for this androgynous hair trend. Here’s how he achieves the look in three simple steps so you can recreate it for your clients!
Get the look:
Step 1: The key to this haircut is the blend. You want the top of the hair to stand out and look longer in length but you also want it to not appear too disconnected from the sides, which are shorter in length. Use scissors to allow you to cut close to the head and to ensure neatness.
Step 2: When it comes to the top of the hair, leave this slightly longer in length but cut into the hair around the fringe and crown area to create texture for an even funkier finish, whilst also keeping the style very youthful and feminine.
Step 3: Finish by using a smoothing oil to get rid of any frizz and flyaways and to leave the hair looking super smooth and lustrous. Don’t overdo it with product as you still want this look to have a softness to it.
