Congratulations to Zoe Verheuvel from Chelsea Laine Salon and Colour Bar in New Glasgow, NS., on her first-place win in the “So You Think You Can Colour?” LightDimensions contest, sponsored by Goldwell!
We caught up with Verheuvel to find out more about her winning look and what it feels like to win the competition!
Looking at her work, it may be hard to believe that Verheuvel is an emerging hairstylist with only two years of work experience! So it’s no surprise that she was honoured to be featured amongst all of the great work submitted, let alone to be announced as the winner, especially since it was her first time entering a hair competition.
For her entry, Verheuvel showcased her talent as a balayage artist. “Balayage has become my favourite thing to do while working in the salon and it’s my top request from clients,” she says. “I love creating balayage and highlighted looks for my clients, but as the weather gets cooler I’ve been more interested in creating more copper-toned looks.”
To create the look, Verheuvel toned with Goldwell LightDimensions Brightener Natural and SilkLift Conditioning Cream Developer 3%. She also used the brand’s Colorance Express Lotion with equal parts 10 Icy & 9 Creme with two drops of Pure Pigments Cool Violet and one drop of Pure Yellow. She says these products have easily become her favourite products to work with in the salon because of the incredible results and shine she gets with every application.
In comparison to other products she’s worked with in the past, she says using Goldwell has helped her build a deep trust in her skills while lightening her clients’ hair. Not only do the products help create uniform results, but they also maintain the integrity of the hair when lightening.
“I find the consistency of the product really nice and it’s so much easier to apply! I have so much trust using these products, especially thanks to the Bond Pro products that come with the lightener,” she says. “I didn’t even think twice about overlapping the product on previously lightened hair because the Silk Lift Strong with the Bond Pro is so good and leaves the client’s hair silky and smooth.”
Verheuvel has been working alongside Contessa-winning Goldwell educator Chelsea Sutherland at the Chelsea Laine Salon and Colour Bar for more than a year. She first joined the salon once the initial COVID-19 restrictions were lifted in Nova Scotia, and since then she’s become an integral part of the team.
Her journey to becoming a hairstylist was inspired by her uncle, who is a salon owner. She’s always admired his work growing up, so once it was time to choose a career path of her own she knew that she would be ready to take the step to become a hairstylist herself.
Our “So You Think You Can Colour?” LightDimensions contest is the very first hair competition she’s ever entered and she was selected as the winner by Goldwell educators, Michael Shire and Krysten-Ashley Garrod!
Congratulations to Verheuvel! And a special shout-out to second-place and third-place winners, Jordi Schonwetter from Abbotsford, BC. and Victoria Casella from Calgary, AB.!
