Nostalgic pieces, pretty pastels with a gothic feel and matte texture. This is how Kevin Murphy himself describes his namesake brand’s latest collection, Future.Love.
Bringing together thousands of hairstylists from around the world on September 16 in Las Vegas, Kevin.Murphy’s global education event provided plenty of hair inspiration, featuring top-tier talent from the brand’s global artistic team.
The show kicked off with a high-energy runway show that featured dramatic editorial appeal. Kevin Murphy started the show by demonstrating his passion for editorial hairstyling, breaking down the elements of working with textured hair. When it came to hair colour, soft pastel shades, including pale apricots and teals, married well with natural blondes and rich brunettes. Kate Reid, global design director for Kevin.Murphy discussed the shift in hair colour from cool to warmer colours (think of golden champagne blondes).
Individual presentations also included members of the international team from Belgium, Sweden, and Italy, each one adding a unique interpretation of editorial hairstyling. A special presentation from Kevin.Murphy’s Colour Masters included Canadians Jan Patanao and Joseph Grossen.
Along with sharpening your technical skills, Kevin.Murphy further secured its commitment to the environment with the announcement that moving forward, the brand will be manufacturing its bottles exclusively from 100 per cent recycled ocean plastics. Kevin.Murphy will be the first beauty brand to implement this practice, which will see recycled bottles hit salons globally in mid-2019. “This change is for the future of our environment and for us to be truly sustainable,” says Murphy.
Hairstylists also took part in a two-day education workshops, which included the Shoot.Me session with Murphy. From selecting models to artistic director, he offered sound advice and tips on getting the best from your next photo shoots. The session also included a live onstage photo shoot, where Murphy also detailed how to select the best images to create your collection.
