Congratulations to Julie Carr, from St. Thomas, ON., on her first-place win in the “So You Think You Can Style?” ‘Pretty Pastels’ photo contest.
Carr, owner of Dragonfly Salon and Spa, an Aveda concept salon, has been a hairstylist for 18 years, specializing in cutting and colour.
For this look, Carr used Aveda products to achieve her ‘pretty pastel’ look.
“I pre-lightened with Aveda Enlightener to a level 9 and then pre-toned with Aveda ash toner. I then mixed two pastel colours; 20g 0N 2g pureV and 5 vol and 20g ASH toner with 2g light R/v 5 vol,” explains Carr. “I applied this formula in triangles all over the head starting at the roots first and let it process for 20 minutes.”
“To style, I used Aveda Thickening Tonic as well as Texture Tonic for volume. I finished with dry shampoo all over and Air Control to achieve the dry textured look.”
When it comes to competitions, Carr says they allow her to push herself. “I love entering competitions to push my creative abilities and learn more about hair,” she says.
“I feel that competitions take your art to the next level in your career. I love doing hair behind the chair, but competition work is where I feel like I’m doing something really special! I’m always looking to get inspired for my next look.”
Congratulations also goes out to our second-place winner, Dustin Schumann, and our third-place winner, Nelson Renouf.
