On Sunday, August 15th, the Wella Company’s 2021 Beauty Envision Awards (BEA) made its triumphant return with a live, in-person show.
Held at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, the event was filled with spectacular hair presentations from around the world.
The big draw of the night was the finalists from Canada, the United States and Puerto Rico who participated in a live competition prior to the show, in hopes of winning one of the night’s 13 coveted awards.
Hosted by Wella’s senior creative director, Carole Protat, BEA included opening remarks by CEO Annie Young-Scrivner and president Sennen Pamich.
The show’s powerful opener paid homage to the trials and tribulations of the year 2020, while the event’s theme of “chrysalis” (rebirth of creativity) was brought to life with stunning visuals and hair presentations from some of the brand’s leading artists.
Wella’s North American ambassadors Dereq Clark, Briana Cisneros and Zach Mesquit led Creative Rebellion, a high-energy show packed with vibrant hair colour, along with captivating haircutting and styling demos.
The #TogetherWeRise team, featuring Omar Antonio, Johannie Jacquitte and Anthony Cress, took the stage with a dramatic and ethereal presentation that demonstrated out-of-this-world creativity and artistic expression.
Since the brand’s international artists were unable to attend in person, they showcased pre-recorded hair segments that did not disappoint. All the way from Tokyo, Toni&Guy Japan’s CEO Hidetoshi Saika presented a stunning collection of bold colour placement. Wella global creative ambassador Darren Ambrose of D&J Ambrose in London, U.K., combined fashion and sustainability with ’90s and retroism in a statement-making presentation.
The event ended with some of the night’s top awards, including CA and US Trendvision Creative Artist and Color of the Year. Since the Canadian TrendVision finalists and mentors were unable to join the festivities in person, Protat connected with them via a video call to announce the winners live.
Congratulations to CA Trendvision Creative Artist winner Olivia Chafe and CA Trendvision Color Artist winner Regan Wasson., who will be advancing to participate in the 2021 International Trendvision Creative Retreat. And a special shoutout to Elite Artist winner Lisa Smith of Mint Hair Lounge in Port Moody, B.C., and Nail Artist winner Amy Hwang of Kumi Nail Beauty Bar in Edmonton, Alta.
The 2021 Beauty Envision Awards judges included Sonya Dove, Wella Professionals global creative artist; Patricia Nikole, Wella Professionals brand ambassador; Gerard Scarpaci, craft hairdresser and co-founder of Hairbrained; Keya Neal, industry activist and founder of Texture vs. Race and Kolour Kulture and Jenny Bui (aka. queen of bling), OPI artistic ambassador.
