With the new year around the corner, it’s no surprise that some clients are looking for a new look to match their new year’s resolutions. Chatters brand ambassador and celebrity hairstylist Cindy Duplantis gave us a step-by-step guide on a range of trending hairstyles you can recreate for your clients this holiday season.
How-To: The Faux Bob
- Prep the hair by double washing it with a shampoo and follow this with a conditioner.
- Apply a gel, such as the L’Anza Healing Curls Curl Flex Memory Gel, too wet hair.
- Part the hair as desired and add a bit more gel around the face-framing pieces.
- Diffuse the hair and then divide it into three sections, two in the front above the ear and one in the back.
- Starting in the back section, run your hands loosely down to the ends. Gather hair together, holding one inch from the ends. Slowly wrap up to the nape of the head and secure with a bobby pin. Let pieces fall out to create a natural look.
- Repeat step 5 with each section while making sure all sections stay loose.
- To finish, diffuse again for extra curl and movement.
How-To: The Feathered Blow Out
- Prep the hair by double washing it with a shampoo and follow this with a conditioner.
- To maintain your clients’ colour, add a glaze such as the Pureology Color Fanatic Top Coat + Sheer Clear Toning Glaze and allow it to sit on the hair. This will help to give the colour an extra boost.
- Section the towel dried hair into two parts.
- Apply a heat protectant. Using a round brush and blow dryer, begin blow drying the hair away from the face.
- Continue to spray heat protectant and blow dry until all pieces are dry, setting each section with a duckbill clip on the base for added volume.
- Unclip and unravel each curl.
How-To: Textured Updo
- Prep the hair by double washing it with a shampoo and follow this with a conditioner.
- To add extra moisture, spray the hair with water to dampen and apply a leave in conditioner to the ends of the hair. Then apply a curl activator to the hair in sections.
- Evenly distribute a curl defining cream such as the Joico Curl Confidence Defining Cream and either air dry or diffuse the curls as desired.
- On fully dried hair, section hair horizontally into two even sections.
- Sweep each section into the center using a boar bristle brush and secure each section using a hair tie, tucking the curls/ends to create two buns.
- Gently pinch curls and slightly pull to loosen for more voluminous bun
- To finish, use a small boar bristle smoothing edge brush to tame hairline curls and edges.
