It’s no surprise that celebrities brought their “A” game to the red carpet of the 91st annual Academy Awards. Here are a few looks that caught our attention.
Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez turned heads (literally) as she walked the red carpet wearing a metallic bodycon gown that sparkled from head-to-toe. Paired with a smoky eye and an Old Hollywood-inspired hairdo, the pop icon left us truly bedazzled. — Lucy Mazzucco, digital editorial coordinator
Charlize Theron
Often known for being a golden goddess on the red-carpet, Charlize Theron pulled off a major changeup at the 2019 Oscars, transforming her signature blonde locks to chocolate brown. Co-created by celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel and colour queen Tracey Cunningham, Theron’s Oscars makeover showcases her versatility and ability to effortlessly pull off just about any hair look. — Veronica Boodhan, managing editor
Maria Menounos
While the focus is definitely on Hollywood’s hottest starts, ABC corespondent Maria Menounos really hit the mark with her red carpet style. Featuring delicate undone curls, and a braid woven down her half up stye, the butterfly accessories accentuated the details of her vibrant yellow gown. — Anna Lee Boschetto, editor-in-chief
Gemma Chan
Pretty spectacular is how Gemma Chan, one of the stars of Crazy Rich Asians, descended on the red carpet with a Valentino haute couture hot pink billowing gown, but kept it easy-going and soft with her hair simply styled in a loose chignon. There’s also something to be said about a massive ball gown that has the added benefits of pockets. – Yasmin Grothé, editor-in-chief (French)
Emilia Clarke
Debuting a short bob and the return to her roots, Game of Thrones star, Emilia Clarke rocked the red carpet with a long, lilac Balmain gown, brunette locks (which are rumoured to have been coloured at home with box dye!) and simplistic makeup. — Lucy Mazzucco, digital editorial coordinator
Laura Harrier
Her custom-made, eco-friendly Louis Vuitton dress may have been the talk of the red-carpet, but actress Laura Harrier was reminiscent of a modern-day Cinderella with her romantic updo, complete with undone face-framing tresses. Paired with blue eyeshadow and a soft pink-red lip, Harrier’s Oscars red-carpet beauty helped enhance her natural, youthful glow. — Veronica Boodhan, managing editor
Regina King
Even with natural waves adding texture to her shoulder-grazing bob, Regina King maintained a sleek, polished, and (dare I say), award-winning style. She kept her makeup palette natural, but a hint of shimmer that was just the right amount of glam for Hollywood’s biggest night of the year. — Anna Lee Boschetto, editor-in-chief
Lady Gaga
With her innate sense of style, Lady Gaga has been a red-carpet wizard for close to a decade. But she always knows how to keep it both fresh and powerful, and this edition of the Oscars was no exception. Here she is donning a black strapless Alexander McQueen gown with a dramatic nipped-in waist, opera gloves and a ravishing updo. But maybe too much spray tan… #justsaying – Yasmin Grothé, editor-in-chief (French)
