Hollywood’s biggest night is a time to celebrate the best of the best in the film industry, but more importantly, it’s also an opportunity for celebrities to bring their beauty A-game to the red carpet! There’s no better place than the Oscars to go all out with hair and makeup, and this year’s glam teams really went above and beyond. From blunt bobs, to fun updos to old Hollywood glam, so many beautiful looks lit up our screens Sunday night, but here are a few of our favourites!
Sandra Oh
“Sandra Oh wowed at the Oscars with her curly braided updo that complemented her ultra-feminine ruffled and sequined Elie Saab gown. The updo was a modern interpretation that combined Old Hollywood glamour with regal flair—fit for Canadian royalty.” — Veronica Boodhan, editor-in-chief
Natalie Portman
“The forever-stunning Natalie Portman cut right to the chase on the red carpet in many ways. The Lucy in the Sky actress was painted in gold with her textured bob with warm highlights that she paired with a gorgeous black and gold embroidered Dior gown. But what caught everyone’s eye was her sleek cape that honoured all the female directors that were snubbed from nominations. Portman had embroidered the names of Lulu Wang, Greta Gerwig, Lorene Scafaria, along with many others, along the side of her cloak.” — Karoun Chahinian, assistant editor
Saoirse Ronan
“This Best Actress nominee dazzled at the 2020 Academy Awards, rocking freshly cut micro bangs—courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel, who cut them the morning of the big show. Micro bangs are trending so it’s refreshing to see them on the red-carpet, and especially on Saoirse since they flatter her so well.” — Veronica Boodhan
Hailee Steinfeld
“Hailee Steinfeld channelled her inner-ballerina on the red carpet. After a six-year Oscars hiatus, the young actress stole the show with her delicate floral dress and romantic double bun updo. And of course, nothing ties together a pretty-in-pink look like a timeless brown smoky eye and soft nude lip.” — Karoun Chahinian
Regina King
“Regina King really did look like royalty in her stunning blush pink Versace gown and chic new short do. But what caught everyone’s attention with her hair swept to one side was her stunning eye makeup, specifically her lash extensions.” — Karoun Chahinian
Taika Waititi
“The director of Oscar-nominated Jojo Rabbit was a silver fox on the red carpet, sporting side-swept curly locks, complete with a hint of stubble, for an effortlessly cool vibe.” — Veronica Boodhan
