Developing and maintaining curls can be a challenge for many hairstylists as it requires knowledge and time to achieve a well-defined and polished texture.
Teresa Romero, the creative director for Sam Villa says “When working behind the chair, hairstylists are creative directors for each guest! It’s important to take the time to lead them by prescribing products and teaching techniques to maintain their curls so they too can be enlightened on how best to refine their texture at home.”
Check out these pro tips on how to cultivate gender free curls for your clients.
Tip 1: Don’t over shampoo
Depending on hair texture, shampoo 2-3 times a week. On days off, just run water through hair and only apply a rinse out conditioner.
Tip 2: Evenly distribute styling products
Use a wet brush to disperse a leave-in conditioner through hair followed by a styling gloss or cream, also distributed with a comb/brush.
Tip 3: Diffuse the Curls
With a blow dryer and diffuser, dry and set curls in place. Once hair is mostly dry, gently push the dryer to the scalp in a bouncing motion to encourage curls to organically separate without the frizz.
